Telco services limited in northern Luzon

MANILA — Telecommunication services are currently limited in the Northern Luzon region due to the onslaught of Typhoon “Ompong”on Saturday.

PLDT and Smart advised their subscribers in Apayao, Cagayan, Batanes, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte that they may experience degraded or no voice call, SMS and data services on their landlines or mobile phones due to widespread power outages and damaged network facilities.

“Our prepositioned network emergency response teams have begun restoration work as the weather situation improves,” PLDT-Smart said in a statement.

For its part, Globe Telecom said its field engineers have begun efforts to restore its services in Cagayan, Apayao, Abra and Ilocos Norte.

“Our field operations engineers in the areas are currently doing restoration works on affected services brought by Typhoon Ompong,” according to Peter Tan, Head of Operations, Network Technical Group.

Globe said it has deployed critical tools and equipment to facilitate the process of recovering its services. (Aerol John Pateña/PNA)
