Telcos to shut off mobile services in QC during SONA

MANILA — Telecommunication firms will be cutting off their mobile services during President Rodrigo Duterte’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday afternoon.

In an advisory, Smart Communications said there will be a temporary loss of mobile telecom services in Quezon City and neighboring areas from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m..

For its part, Globe Telecom said its subscribers will be unable to make calls, text or use mobile data in the following areas from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.:

-Batasan Complex

-Commonwealth Avenue

-Culiat, Quezon City

The two telecommunication giants said the measure is in compliance with the directive of the National Telecommunications Commission that was issued upon request of the Presidential Security Group to cut off all network services during the President’s SONA. (Aerol John Pateña/PNA)
