Bares said TESDA provincial and regional offices can hold this type of skills competition from March to April 15. Winners will then compete for the zonal (Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao) and national competitions.

“We use a scoring system for the World Skills Competition. Participants should at get at least 700 points to qualify for the Gold, Silver and Bronze awards. There may be more than one winner per award, depending on their scores,” he explained.

Winners in the national category will then participate in the ASEAN Skills Competition in Singapore in 2020. They can also get the chance to participate in the World Skills Competition in China in 2021.

“I hope (participants) will give their whole dedication and give their best for this competition,” Bares remarked.

According to TESDA, the regional competitions were designed to ensure the Filipino participants will be competitive in the international arena.

There is no target date yet to hold the national competition.
