TESDA pushes ‘Train to Build Build Build’ project

MANILA — In line with the Duterte administration’s “Build, Build, Build” infrastructure program, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is planning for a “Train to Build Build Build” project.

Through this project, TESDA plans to use technical vocational education and training (TVET) to mold more skilled workers and address the need for more construction workers for the country’s “Build, Build, Build” program.

TESDA will also expand TVET’s capacity in construction-related training programs.

Under the project, TESDA will use a training mechanism designed to provide the needed skills to fill in the skills gaps in the construction sector.

TESDA is also working with the industry on training arrangements it can give the workers.

“This is also our way to ensure that TVET’s capacity is increased, especially to industries that have massive skills requirements like construction,” the agency said in a statement on Thursday.

Meanwhile, TESDA’s second National TVET Enrollment Day and Jobs Bridging for Construction and Information Technology-Business Process Management started on Thursday, April 5, and was slated until April 6.

The agency earlier mentioned that this event targets laborers needed in the construction sector.

“Enrollment number in the construction courses is still very low, as some 100,000 construction workers will be needed for the ‘Build, Build, Build’ program,” TESDA Director General Guiling Mamondiong said in a statement.

During the first National TVET Day held last February, 28,000 have enlisted for various courses in the construction sector, such as carpentry, plumbing, and masonry.

Mamondiong said the nationwide jobs and training fair is an opportunity to apply for a job, as various companies had partnered with TESDA for the job fair. (Ma. Cristina Arayata/PNA)
