MANILA — The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is encouraging repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Kuwait to avail of the agency’s free language skills training.
This would help them get better chances of finding jobs abroad, in case they would want to work in other countries, the state agency said.
TESDA Public Information Unit officer, Nina Dodd, told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) that basically, TESDA really encourages OFWs to avail of the language training before leaving, since TESDA’s language courses also come with the study of foreign cultures.
The agency offers English, Japanese, Spanish, Mandarin (Chinese), Italian, Arabic and Korean language courses in more than 30 TESDA Training Institutions nationwide.
TESDA has also partnered with the Spanish Embassy and Instituto Cervantes de Manila, the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Italia Lavoro, and the Korea International Cooperation Agency for the language training program.
Late last year, TESDA also relaunched its National Language Skills Institute, which has become a venue for Japanese language preparatory training for nurses and caregivers under the Philippine-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement.
Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said more than 3,000 OFWs from Kuwait have been repatriated since Feb. 11.
The Philippine government has implemented a deployment ban to Kuwait since February due to reports that OFWs there were experiencing maltreatment and abuse.
President Rodrigo Duterte has instructed the DFA and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to work on the OFWs’ repatriation. (PNA)
