MANILA — The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will continue strengthening quality technical and vocational education and training (TVET), an agency executive told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Friday.
One of the reasons for this move is the recognition that TESDA has been receiving since 2013. The most recent was from the Bayan Academy earlier this week.
“TESDA received a special recognition from Bayan Academy for the agency’s ‘contribution in building the nation from below through social capital formation’,” TESDA Planning Office executive director, Marissa Legaspi, said.
The two institutions have been partners for almost a decade now in providing programs to benefit the Filipino workforce, she added.
The partnership also includes Bayan Academy’s technical assistance to TESDA initiatives and TESDA’s support through scholarships to the trainees of Bayan Academy programs.
Legaspi noted that this wasn’t the first time that TESDA’s efforts were recognized by its partners.
In 2013, TESDA was given the Partnership of the Industry Award by the Semiconductor and Electronics Industry of the Philippines, Inc. (SEIPI). “This was in recognition of TESDA’s contributions to the industry in terms of developing the needed manpower through scholarship provision,” Legaspi said.
TESDA also received the “JICA President Award for the Project on Rehabilitation and Recovery from Typhoon Yolanda” in 2018. This award recognized TESDA as one of JICA’s partners in the implementation of the project to rehabilitate areas badly affected by typhoon Yolanda in 2013.
Also last year, TESDA was among the agencies that received the Philippine Quality Award (PQA) from President Rodrigo Duterte.
“TESDA was awarded the PQA Level 1- Recognition for Commitment to Quality Management, and was the first to receive such award among education agencies. Together with its ISO 9001:2015 Certification, the PQA is testament to the integrity and quality of TESDA’s TVET programs and its services,” Legaspi said.
With these awards and recognition, Legaspi said TESDA will remain firm in helping the Filipinos uplift their lives through quality skills training programs.
“The agency is committed to help ensure that TVET graduates will not only be given access to training, but have a job or livelihood. This is the mantra that TESDA will pursue in the coming years,” she said.tesdas
