The power of small gestures on Random Act of Kindness Day

By Janine Dumaguin and Lovely Moral

What might seem small to us when we choose whether or not to provide kindness to another person may be really important to the recipient. Indeed, it’s the small things in life that can make a big difference.

As we celebrate Random Act of Kindness Day today, may we be reminded to be kinder to each other because kindness costs nothing and can do wonders.

So with that in mind, don’t hold back and feel free to do any of these 10 small gestures to show some kindness and make people feel loved this day and beyond.

Share words of encouragement

Share inspiration and hope with those around you, you never know who might need them.

Saying words of appreciation to someone show that you see the best in them when they cannot see it in themselves.

Show gratitude

Express gratitude and acknowledge the time and effort of those that offer you assistance. Tell them how grateful you are for their help, support, or even just for being in your life.

Give a genuine compliment to someone

This day you can spread joy to others through simple verbal affirmations.

Giving someone thoughtful praise can end up brightening what otherwise would’ve been “just a normal day.”

Send someone a handwritten note

You can make someone’s day by sharing your positivity through sending someone a handwritten note. It is also a wonderful way to convey your concern for someone.

Give a hug

According to scientists, the benefits of hugging go beyond that warm feeling you get when you hold someone in your arms. And it turns out that hugging is proven to make us healthier and happier.

So, without so much hesitation give someone a hug, even if brief, and make them feel good through your comfort.

Lend an ear

Sometimes what we only need is someone who will listen, so be that someone today.

Listen to someone, may it be a colleague, friend, family, or even stranger. An ear that listens indicates that you are there for them.

Express your love and appreciation

Let’s not also forget our loved ones, as they’re the ones who got our back in our darkest times.

May this be a perfect day to return the favor by saying how much you love and appreciate them in anyways.

Act of service

Carry out an act of service for someone, may it be big or small help.

You can start by helping someone struggling with the things they carry, lend some time to someone who’s lost, or open the door for elderly.

Make someone laugh

Laughter is the best medicine, cliché may it be but it’s true. According to study, laughter can actually improve your health. On this day, share a good laugh with someone.

Be kind to yourself

Be kind not only to others but also to ourselves. Treat yourself, take a break, appreciate the things you’ve done, give yourself recognition, or take good care of yourself.

Remember that you’re amazing and worth appreciating!
