‘Too much to handle’ Gilas hands Myanmar a 95-point beating

Gilas Pilipinas never pulled back their trigger as they displayed a no mercy show, handing over a rare 95-point cushion to completely devastate the Myanmar squad, 129-34, at the 29th Southeast Asian Games’ men basketball tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The Philippine team off to a merciless strong start as they relentlessly showcased an early dominating 15-0 run to leave the Myanmar team bleeding for points in the first period of the ballgame, 31-7.

A 50-point lead seemed to be easily established by the Gilas team as the one-sided game continued in the second canto, with Gilas Pilipinas asserted offensive and defensive mastery in all cylinders while giving just a rare 3-point output for Myanmar squad in the whole second quarter alone, 60-10.

Kobe Paras spearheaded the Gilas Pilipinas’ first half surge with his early 9 points, 4 steals and 3 blocks – including his two emphatic dunks that made the Filipino crowd go crazy.

With the pesky defense of the systematic Gilas squad, the passive Myanmar team always had hard time competing in both ends of the floor as they only registered a poor 6-point output in the whole third quarter, while Gilas sustained a massive 82-point lead, 98-16.

An enormous almost century mark spread was completed by the Filipinos as they gave the Myanmar squad a devastating 129-34 loss.

The frontliners of Gilas squad took over with two athletic bigs leading their team through beyond 20-point output.

Raymar Jose effectively registered 22 points while Kobe Paras exposed a higlight show with his huge 20 points.

Troy Rosario also contributed 14 points, as he started the engine of the well-oiled Gilas Pilipinas in the first quarter.

In the defensive end, meanwhile, the Filipinos forced the Myanmar players to commit 41 turnovers – with Gilas benefitting to that as they registered 59 points off the turnover. They also recorded 23 steals.

Also focusing on their inside plays, Gilas Pilipinas exhibited an enormous 59 points in the paint. | Tretch Melarpes – PTV
