Town council candidate in Nueva Ecija shot dead

SAN ANTONIO, Nueva Ecija – A Sangguniang Bayan (municipal council) candidate in Purok 3, Barangay Julo here was killed by a lone motorcycle-riding gunman a few meters from his house on Friday afternoon.

Allan Joson, 42, died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds, police reported.

Joson also ran but lost in the vice mayoralty race in 2016.

Chief Insp. Marlon Cudal, town police chief, said follow-up operations are being conducted to identify the gunman and the motive.

Third district board member and vice gubernatorial candidate Edward Thomas Joson, who was among the first to visit the victim at the morgue, condemned the killing.

He noted that the killing took place after the slaying of Fr. Richmond Nilo and Gen. Tinio Mayor Ferdinand Bote, among others.

Nakakabahala, kasi pang-ilan na sa high-profile na casualty dito sa ating lalawigan. Inaasahan po natin ang ating kapulisan e sa lalong madaling panahon ay maresolba ito (It is alarming that there have some high-profile casualties here in our province. We expect our police to resolve this as soon as possible),” Joson said. (Marilyn Galang/PNA)
