As transfer window officially opens, Negros FC makes huge acquisitions

MANILA — Just as the Philippine Football League (PFL) midseason transfer window officially opened, Ceres Negros FC announced five new signings as the team looks to lock in its second consecutive league title.

Highlighting the new acquisitions is the return of goalkeeper Roland Muller from a much-needed break.

Muller opted to skip the first half of the season to attend to his duties as a new father, and as Negros gears up for its AFC Cup ASEAN Zone Finals series against Home United, the club decided to recall him.

Also making a return to Negros is attacking midfielder Paul Mulders, who previously played for Cebu.

Negros actually got three ex-Cebu players in the transfer window as the club also acquired midfielder Curt Dizon and defender Jerry Barbaso.

Negros also got one foreign player in the window in A-League veteran Blake Powell, who recently played for Central Coast.

To make room for Powell, Negros decided to waive Japanese player Takumi Uesato.

Negros-Laguna game postponed

However, the five new signings may have to wait a little longer before finally going to action for Negros as its scheduled match on Wednesday against Stallion Laguna FC at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod has been postponed.

In a statement, the league said that Laguna asked for the postponement “due to unavoidable circumstances.”

The league announced that the match will now be played on Aug. 25.

The development leaves the 3 p.m. showdown between Davao and Cebu at the Rizal Memorial Stadium here as the lone match that will take place on Wednesday. (Ivan Stewart Saldajeno/PNA)
