Transgender solon seeks 2nd term in House

MANILA — Despite calls for her to run for a Senate seat, Bataan Rep. Geraldine Roman is seeking another term at the House of Representatives.

The first transgender woman elected in Philippine Congress filed her certificate of candidacy on Wednesday.

In a statement, Roman vowed to continue her push to advance gender equality, as well as promoting equality in education, quality and universal healthcare, agriculture, livelihood, infrastructure, transparency, and the youth.

“Equality is not just about LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) rights. Equality is a platform that aims to uplift Filipinos, especially those who find themselves in difficult and unfair circumstances,” Roman said.

“My constituents deserve nothing but the best. They are the reason why I have decided to continue my work as a Congresswoman, representing the First District of Bataan. There is still so much work to be done, so many goals to achieve,” she added.

Roman is a first termer and chairs the newly-created House committee on disaster and risk reduction management. (Filane Mikee Cervantes/PNA)
