Travel restriction imposed on Indonesia as variant threat looms

The Philippine government imposed on Wednesday (July 14) a travel restriction on Indonesia from July 16 to 31 due to the threat of COVID-19 variants.

Malacañang said the approved travel restriction will cover all travelers from Indonesia and those with travel history to that country within the last 14 days.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said individuals from Indonesia who arrive before 12:01 a.m. of July 16 may be still allowed entry, but must undergo a 14-day facility-based quarantine, notwithstanding a negative RT-PCR result.

“This action is undertaken to prevent the further spread and community transmission of COVID-19 variants in the Philippines,” Roque said.

The government also announced earlier the extension of travel restrictions on India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, United Arab Emirates, and Oman until July 31. (OPS)/AG-jlo
