TS Ramil gains speed over WPS, may exit PAR Monday

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) noted the increase in TS Ramil’s speed as it hovers over the West Philippine Sea in its 5:00 p.m. bulletin.

Tropical Storm Ramil (international name: Fengshen) was last located 85 km west-northwest of Iba, Zambales, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph as it moves west-northwestward at 35 kph.

With the weather system moving away from the Philippine mainland, only a few areas in Luzon remain under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2:

  • Central and southern portions of La Union (Rosario, Pugo, Tubao, Santo Tomas, Agoo, Aringay, Caba, Naguilian, Burgos, Bagulin, Bauang, City of San Fernando, San Juan, San Gabriel, Bacnotan, Santol, Balaoan, Luna)
  • Western and central portions of Pangasinan (Basista, Lingayen, Villasis, City of Alaminos, Anda, Malasiqui, San Fabian, Urbiztondo, Bautista, Mangaldan, Mapandan, Burgos, Dagupan City, Binalonan, Bolinao, Aguilar, Alcala, Sual, Labrador, Bani, Santo Tomas, Pozorrubio, City of Urdaneta, Laoac, Mangatarem, Mabini, San Carlos City, Manaoag, Binmaley, San Jacinto, Bugallon, Bayambang, Infanta, Agno, Calasiao, Santa Barbara, Dasol, Sison)

A gale warning prevails over the western seaboard of Luzon, making travel risky on all types of sea vessels in the following areas:

• Up to 4.5 m: The seaboards of Ilocos Norte, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, and Lubang Island; the western seaboards of Bataan, and Batangas; and the northwestern seaboard of Occidental Mindoro

• Up to 3.5 m: The seaboards of Ilocos Sur, Batanes, mainland Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Aurora, and northern Quezon.

• Up to 3.0 m:  The seaboard of Camarines Norte; the northern and eastern seaboards of Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes.

• Up to 2.5 m: The seaboards of Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, and Cavite.

• Up to 2.0 m:  The seaboard of Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Caluya Islands; the remaining seaboards of Quezon, Occidental Mindoro, and Bicol Region; the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Samar and Eastern Samar; the eastern seaboards of Dinagat Islands.

Tropical Storm Ramil is expected to maintain its west-northwestward or northwestward movement over the West Philippine Sea and may intensify into a severe tropical storm outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Monday morning.
