Tuguegarao farmers, fishermen receive modern equipment

TUGUEGARAO CITY — Farmers and fisherfolk in the city received farm and fishing equipment from the city government over the weekend.

City agriculturists Dr. Evangeline Calubaquib said the equipment — four-wheel drive tractors, 10 non-motorized fiber glass boats, 32 fish stalls and fish cladding — were provided by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) region 2 and the Tuguegarao City government.

“For the fisherfolks, this equipment will help them increase the productivity and profitability and thereby attain food sufficiency while on the tobacco farmers, these tractors will serve as their livelihood through income generating projects to run their cooperative and to maintain its economic activity,” Calubaquib said.

Calubaquib said some 557 tobacco farmers identified and accredited by the National Tobacco Administration (NTA) and 42 fisherfolks benefited from the project.

Vice Mayor Bienvenido De Guzman also said the equipment is a big help in increasing agricultural productivity in farm areas.

He also encouraged the farmers to strengthen their cooperatives. (PNA)
