Tunnel boring machines for Metro subway up for delivery

The first batch of tunnel boring machines from Japan to be used for the construction of the Metro Manila Subway is now ready to be delivered to the country.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) explained that the equipment will accelerate the underground construction without upsetting establishments above the area.

At least 25 tunnel boring machines were ordered by the Philippines from Japan and two are already up for delivery. Each equipment can dig up to 600 cubic meters per day.

The subway will have 17 stations from Valenzuela to NAIA Terminal 3. Partial operation of stations from Valenzuela to North Avenue is being eyed to start in 2021 before President Duterte’s term ends. – Report from Karen Villanda
