Twin blasts hurt couple in North Cotabato

MLANG, North Cotabato — Police have launched in North Cotabato a manhunt against a man who allegedly tossed two grenades in a residential compound in Barangay Nueva Vida here Sunday night that injured a couple.

Supt. Bernard Tayong, North Cotabato police spokesperson, said Nestor Lambid Nuñez, 58; and his wife Jovy, 54; both residents of Purok 2, Barangay Nueva Vida, sustained shrapnel injuries on their bodies in the explosions. Both victims are now recuperating at a local hospital.

Tayong said the victims were having their dinner when the twin explosions rocked their home around 7 p.m. Neighbors rushed the couple to the hospital.

Citing police investigations, Tayong said a certain Ronnie Rabor, the couple’s neighbor was a person of interest based on the statements from the victims. It was not clear what motivated the suspect to lob the fragmentation grenades.

Police are yet to receive further information from the victims.

The couple’s statement was corroborated by neighbors that Rabor was the likely suspect. He was last seen near the couple’s home.
