Twin quakes hit Cagayan; damages, aftershocks expected

Twin quakes hit Cagayan Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 1, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

A magnitude 5.3 quake jolted Dalupiri Island in Calayan, Cagayan about 4:03 p.m.

It hit 26 kilometers (km) northeast of Dalupiri Island and had a depth of 16 km.

Intensity II was reported in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, while Intensity I was logged in Sinait, Ilocos Sur.

Another 4.3-magnitude quake hit Dalupiri Island anew at about 4:09 p.m.

Damages and aftershocks from the magnitude 5.3-quake are expected.
