TY Ulysses, TY Rolly leave ₱300M damage to health sector


The estimated damage wrought by previous typhoons to the health sector has blown up to more than ₱300 million pesos, the Department of Health (DOH) disclosed.

“Ang pinagsamang halaga ng pinsala dulot ng Typhoon Rolly at Ulysses ay nasa ₱303.9 million (The combined amount of damage due to typhoons Rolly and Ulysses is at ₱303.9 million),” DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III reported in the aired public address of President Duterte on Tuesday night.

Among the affected facilities are one Center for Health Development, nine DOH hospitals and laboratory facility, five LGU hospitals, 20 Rural Health Units, and 57 barangay health centers.

The health department is still waiting for further reports on damages to other health facilities, including isolation and quarantine centers. Updates from some areas are still pending due to weak mobile phone services.

Meanwhile, Duque added that the DOH has distributed around ₱13 million worth of medicines and commodities in Cagayan Valley Centers for Health Development, “a little over ₱2 million” to Calabarzon CHD, and around ₱2.1 million to NCR CHD. – PTV News, PTV News Online
