Typhoon “Jenny” (international name: Koinu) has left the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) as it weakens, state weather bureau PAGASA said Thursday afternoon, Oct. 5.

As of 4:00 p.m. the typhoon was 275 kilometers (km) west northwest of Itbayat, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 140 km per hour (km/h) near the center and gustiness of up to 170 km/h.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) is currently hoisted over the following areas:

TCWS No. 2

Itbaya, Batanes

TCWS No. 1

The rest of Batanes

Babuyan Islands

Northern portion of Apayao (Calanasan, Luna)

Northwestern portion of Cagayan (Pamplona, SanchezMira, Claveria, Santa Praxedes, Abulug)

Northern portion of Ilocos Norte (Pagudpud, Adams, Dumalneg, Bangui, Burgos, Pasuquin, Vintar

Batanes may experience heavy rainfall until Friday afternoon.

PAGASA said Jenny will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon (habagat).

“Ang southwest monsoon ay nakaapekto pa rin po sa ilang bahagi rin ng Luzon area, so magpapatuloy pa rin ang cloudy weather conditions na may kasamang kalat-kalat na pagulan, pagkidlat, at pagkulog,” PAGASA weather specialist Rhea Torres said.

Meanwhile, a low pressure area is being monitored which may enter PAR this weekend.

It currently has no direct effect over the country.
