Typhoon ‘Paeng’ enters PAR but still won’t affect PH

MANILA — The typhoon with international name “Trami” has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and has been named “Paeng.”

In a severe weather bulletin at 5 p.m. Sunday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said, however, “Paeng” has no direct effect yet in any part of the country as of posting.

It, however, said the typhoon might affect the extreme Northern Luzon, from Batanes to Babuyan Group of Islands, around next Friday (September 28).

The weather bureau warned of possibly hoisting cyclone warning signals over extreme Northern Luzon by Thursday or Friday.

It added it might also issue gale warning over the seaboards of Northern Luzon as the typhoon approaches.

PAGASA sees no significant enhancement of the southwest monsoon until about 11 p.m. Sunday.

The weather monitor saw the eye of Typhoon Paeng at 1,290 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City in Cagayan at 4 p.m. Sunday, with maximum sustained winds of up to 125 km per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 155 km per hour.

PAGASA said the typhoon is moving west at 20 km per hour.

It forecast the typhoon to be at 960 km east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan by Monday afternoon, to be 705-525 km east of Basco, Batanes from Tuesday to Thursday afternoon, to 185 km northeast of Basco, Batanes by Friday afternoon.

The public and the disaster risk reduction and management councils concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next update in PAGASA’s Severe Weather Bulletin by 11 p.m. on Sunday. (PNA)
