Typhoon ‘Queenie’ to bring scattered rains until Wednesday

MANILA — The trough of Typhoon Queenie will bring scattered rain showers over parts of the country until Wednesday afternoon, the weather bureau said.

“Queenie” was last eyed 1,080 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, heading northwest at 15 km per hour.

The typhoon has maximum sustained winds of 200 km/h near the center, and gustiness of up to 245 km/h.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorm will prevail over Cagayan Valley Region, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, and the provinces of Aurora and Quezon.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

Meanwhile, strong to gale force winds will blow over the northern and eastern sections of Luzon. Coastal waters along these areas will be rough to very rough.

Moderate to strong winds will prevail over the eastern section of Visayas and Mindanao, where coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas, PAGASA said. (Ma. Cristina Arayata/PNA)
