UPDATES ON LEYTE EARTHQUAKE (From Regional Public Information Office, DPWH Region 8)

A 6.5 magnitude earthquake hit Leyte at 4:03PM today. It is located West of Jaro Leyte and tectonic in origin and 002km. in depth. Intensity V in Tacloban, Palo and Cebu and Intensity IV in Tolosa, Leyte.

DPWH 4th Leyte Engineering District Office under District Engineer Lino Francisco Gonzales reported the following: Palo Carigara Ormoc Road, passable, cracks on pavement near Kananga, cracks in Valencia Bridge approach still pasable, in Ormoc Baybay Southern Leyte road passable, Palompon Isabel Merida Ormoc Road passable cracks on bridges Kinuhangan, Pagsangaan, Libungao Matag ob Road still to be verified.

So far, no damages in areas covered by DPWH Southern Leyte District Engineering Office as reported by District Engineer Margarita Junia.
District Engineer Eusebio Culas of 5th Leyte District Engineering Office based in Baybay Leyte reported no infra damage in their area of concern but further detailed inspection will be conducted early tomorrow morning.

From District Engineer Lito Veloso of 1st Leyte Engineering District Office, initial assessment indicates no major damage in areas covered. The District is still collecting situational reports from various maintenance point persons assigned. | DPWH
