‘Urduja’ victims get P103.3-M aid: NDRRMC

MANILA —  Families severely affected by typhoon “Urduja” during its onslaught early this month get PHP103.3 million worth of assistance, an official of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

NDRRMC Spokesperson Mina Marasigan said the aid was extended to families through the Department of Social Welfare and Development and local government units in Mimaropa, Caraga, Regions V, VI, VII, VIII.

Marasigan said 14 areas in Mimaropa and Region VIII were placed under a state of calamity due to the effects of “Urduja”.

Areas under state of calamity are Baco, Oriental Mindoro; Ormoc, Leyte; Tacloban, Leyte; Borongan, Eastern Samar; Can-avid, Eastern Samar; Llorente, Eastern Samar; Sta. Fe, Leyte; Tanauan, Leyte; Barugo, Leyte; Zumarraga, Samar; Biliran, Biliran; Eastern Samar; Northern Samar and Samar. “Urduja” affected 425,996 families or 1,780,163 persons living in 2,471 barangays in the six regions.

Some 810 families or 3,473 persons are still still being aided inside and outside evacuation centers.

Infrastructure and agricultural damages caused by “Urduja” totalled to PHP1.6 billion.

The NDRRMC is still validating reports that 47 persons were killed and another 44 were missing during “Urduja’s” onslaught. (Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
