US Pres. Biden meets Pope Francis in Vatican

United States President Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. met with Pope Francis at the Vatican on Friday (Oct. 29), where he thanked the latter for his “advocacy for the world’s poor and those suffering from hunger, conflict, and persecution.”

The White House said the US President commended His Holiness’ leadership against the climate crisis, and his advocacies on vaccine sharing and an “equitable global economic recovery” amid the pandemic.

The visit was made ahead of the face-to-face G20 Summit in Rome, Italy.

Following his meeting with the Pope, Biden met with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Parolin to discuss efforts to support developing countries’ COVID-19 vaccination drives.

“President Biden thanked the Vatican for speaking out on behalf of the wrongfully detained, including in Venezuela and Cuba. The leaders committed to continue using their voices to advocate for personal and religious freedoms world-wide.”   -AG-rir
