United States Vice President Kamala Harris arrived in the Philippines Sunday night, Nov. 20, to meet President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday, Nov. 21.
The meeting will focus on strengthening the security alliance and economic ties between the two countries.
Harris is also set to visit Palawan on Tuesday, Nov. 22.
The visit would make her the highest-ranking United States official to visit the island close to the West Philippine Sea or the South China Sea.
During Harris’ bilateral meeting with Marcos in Thailand, the chief executive said the US official’s visit to Palawan “will not cause problems” between the Philippines and China.
