A review of the city’s COVID-19 situation revealed that the most active cases in Quezon City are those who are unvaccinated.
The Quezon City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (CESU) reported that out of the 8,159 total active cases from August 8-21, 2021, 5,735 (70%) are not vaccinated while 1,416 (18%) are fully vaccinated. The remaining 1008 (12%) are considered partially vaccinated and are either waiting for their second dose or yet to pass the two-week period after getting their second dose to develop protection against the virus.
Of those who are not vaccinated, 4,619 are asymptomatic, 1,012 are mild, 74 are moderate, 10 are severe, while 20 have died.
Out of those fully vaccinated, 1,031 are asymptomatic, 349 are mild, 33 are moderate, and no patient is considered severe or critical. However, 3 confirmed cases, all senior citizens with comorbidities, have died.
On the other hand, for those who are partially vaccinated, 714 are asymptomatic, 271 are mild, 19 are moderate, 1 severe case, and 3 deaths recorded. The three, aged 49, 56, and 60 years old, also had comorbidities.
Mayor Joy Belmonte stressed that the data showed that vaccines are effective, and the city government’s aggressive vaccination efforts to achieve population protection are on track.
“This review of our data greatly proves that our vaccines work regardless of the brand. By releasing this information, we can inspire and encourage more of our QC residents and workers to register in our vaccination program,” Mayor Belmonte said.
As of Aug. 24, 2021, the QCProtekTodo Vaccination Program has administered a total of 2,271,833 vaccine doses to QC residents and workers. 1,563,554 individuals or 91.97% of the 1.7 million target population received their first doses while 708,279 (44.09%) have received their second doses. This was achieved a month after the city government reached 1 million doses and after vaccine supplies from the government began arriving in sufficient quantities.
CESU Head Dr. Rolando Cruz said that these numbers prove that vaccines provide the protection the body needs to prevent severe illness.
“These vaccines continue to be highly effective in preventing hospitalization of confirmed COVID-19 patients. We have seen that patients who are fully vaccinated are asymptomatic and thus can undergo isolation in facilities only, which also lessens the burden of our hospitals,” Dr. Cruz said.
Mayor Belmonte again urged QCitizens and workers not to wait a minute longer to be vaccinated.
“Please do register through your barangays or our QCVaxEasy portal because as soon as vaccine supplies continue to arrive, we will immediately contact you to get your jabs.”
