Vax experts to study use of CoronaVac on children

Vaccine experts will conduct a clinical trial review on the use of the Chinese vaccine CoronaVac on children aged 3 to 17 years old, Vaccine Expert Panel (VEP) member and infectious disease specialist Dr. Rontgene Solante said on Sunday (June 6).

A Philippine Daily Inquirer report quoted Solante as saying in a message that “children are as vulnerable” in acquiring COVID-19 as adults.

“There are already reports in other countries with increasing cases [among] children, that’s why the approval of Pfizer was also fast-tracked for this age group, especially in the United States and Europe,” he said.

China has already granted an emergency use authorization (EUA) to CoronaVac for use on children.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health-Technical Advisory Group (DOH-TAG) clarified that Sinovac still needs to apply for an amended EUA here to start the study on the use of CoronaVac for children.

In relation to this, one million doses of the said vaccine from China arrived in the Philippines on June 6.
