A veterinarian spotted a rare male calico cat during a medical mission.

In a Facebook post, Dr. Gab Almera, who offers low cost veterinary services, shared that they finally found a rare male calico patient.

“Finally! After years of searching for a male calico patient, we found one, today!” Almera wrote.

Calico are cats with tri-color coats.

“Did you know that a male calico is like a five-leaf clover or a ‘unicorn’ in cats?” Almera said.

“It is very rare and for the longest time we have been doing outreach events, this is the first time we found one,” he added.

According to the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine, there are just one male of every 3,000 calico births. – cf
