Village chief, 2 others nabbed in drug raid in Cotabato

COTABATO CITY — Anti-narcotics agents arrested a village chair in Maguindanao province and two others, including his son, during a drug raid in this city.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency – Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-ARMM), which has jurisdiction in this city, identified the arrested suspects as Kanakan Bagundang, village chair of Barangay Guiawa, Northern Kabuntalan, Maguindanao; his son Mike Bagundang, and Nasrudin Juanday, an accomplice.

A report from PDEA-ARMM said the raiding team swooped down on the safehouse of Bagundang’s group at sitio Boliao 3, Barangay Poblacion Mother here on Wednesday night and pounced on the suspects.

Seized from Bagundang’s possession were suspected “shabu” sachets with an estimated street value of PHP150,000; two .45 caliber pistols, drug paraphernalia, and ammunition, among others.

The PDEA-ARMM said they have long been monitoring the illegal activities of Bagundang, who is listed as among those in their top ten wanted list. The suspects have denied the accusations against them. (Noel Punzalan/PNA)
