Village councilor in Pangasinan town nabbed for gun, explosive

BINMALEY, Pangasinan—Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) operatives have arrested a re-electionist incumbent barangay kagawad for illegal possession of firearms and a grenade after the team conducted Oplan Galugad in his house in Barangay Basing here.

Chief Inspector Aragil Guardaya, CIDG-Pangasinan provincial director, in an interview Wednesday, said incumbent barangay kagawad Eduardo Alipio has been apprehended after they recovered a caliber .38 revolver with two live ammunition and a fragmentation grenade from his custody.

He said Alipio failed to show documents in defense of keeping the said firearms.

Guardaya disclosed that Alipio has been the second incumbent barangay official in the province subject to CIDG operations during the election period, after barangay chairman Jaime Aboc of Barangay Palina West Urdaneta City.

Charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 will be filed against Alipio said Guardaya.

He, however, emphasized that Alipio will not be disqualified in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections this May 14.

“He will not be disqualified since the firearms have been recovered in his residence, so he did not violate the election gun ban. He will be charged only with illegal possession of firearms and ammunitions and illegal possession of explosives,” Guardaya said. (Ahikam Pasion/PNA)
