Village councils group sets provincial election on July 30

ILOILO CITY — The Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) provincial federation in Iloilo will elect a new set of officers on July 30.

In a media interview Thursday, Provincial Director Teodora Sumagaysay of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Iloilo, said that the filing of certificates of candidacy for those interested to run will be on July 24-26.

According to her, all the towns in the province are expected to elect their respective ABC municipal federation officers on July 16.

She said that the winning ABC presidents in each municipality will convene in a meeting for the selection of different committees.

“You will have the nomination committee and registration committee,” she said.

Sumagaysay said that ABC presidents interested in running for the provincial federation will file their COCs with the registration committee.

Those who are part of the committees are no longer allowed to run for the election, she said.

The election of ABC provincial federation will be for president, vice president and eight members of the Board of Directors.

“The secretary and the treasurer will be taken from the board of directors,” Sumagaysay said, adding that the election will be done through “secret ballot”.

She also reminded those who are interested to run for the posts to observe the schedule of activities.

“We want a very systematic and timely election,” she said. (Cindy Ferrer/PNA)
