Villagers welcome DILG water project in N. Cotabato

COTABATO CITY – A vital government project has lightened the day of residents of eight villages in Kabacan, North Cotabato after the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) granted them water projects.

In a statement released Wednesday, the DILG said that eight far-flung barangays of Kabacan are the newest addition to the “Salin Tubig” (Sagana at Ligtas na Tubig sa Lahat) program in the province.

“Kabacan now has 12 villages with water projects from the DILG,” Mayor Herlo Guzman said in a radio interview Thursday.

He said the initial four recipients of the DILG water system were the villages of Tamped, Nangaan, and Simone, which are all completed and functional.

The latest batch includes the villages of Pisan, Bangilan, Simbuhay, Dagupan, Sanggadong, Malanduague, Upper Paatan, and Banawag.

Guzman was in high spirits as he welcomed the latest batch of water projects, saying that a communiqué sent to him DILG Secretary Eduardo Año valued the undertaking in the eight villages at some PHP10-million.

“The people of the eight barangays were elated that their dream of having potable and safe drinking water is coming,” Guzman said.

He then directed Municipal Engineer Noel Agor and Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator Buenaventura Pacania to immediately commence documentation and validation of the projects to avoid delays.

Elpidio Viloan, a resident of Barangay Pisan, was excited to see safe water flowing in the village channeled through the DILG by the national government.

“I am quite sure that all residents in our village would soon be safe from waterborne diseases,” Viloan said in a separate radio interview.

Guzman said he expects the projects to commence before December and completed before the year ends. (Press Release/PNA)
