Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark A. Villar assessed major infrastructure projects in Iloilo City during his recent visit in Panay Island.

Secretary Villar inspected the Iloilo Esplanade 1 Extension and Nabitasan-San Rafael By-Pass Road which are both under the implementation of DPWH Regional Office 6.

The DPWH Chief was joined by Undersecretary Karen Olivia V. Jimeno, DPWH Region 6 Director Wenceslao M. Leaño, Assistant Regional Director Jose Al V. Fruto, and Construction Division Chief Ormel G. Santos during the project visit.

Completed in the amount of P40.253 million, Iloilo Esplanade 1 Extension Project involved the construction of 200-lineal meter walkway from the foot of Iloilo Bridge to the foot of the recently completed Nabitasan Bridge.

The project also involved construction of skating rink, viewing decks and boating station for recreation, as well as underpass connected to Iloilo Esplanade 1.

On the otherhand, the Nabitasan-San Rafael By-pass Road with a funding amount of P134.91 Million covers the construction of 834.0 lineal meters, 4-lane, 2-way portland concrete cement pavement (PCCP) access road which connects from Iloilo-Jaro Diversion Road (service road) in San Rafael, Mandurriao district to Jalandoni Bridge in Barangay Nabitasan, Lapaz district.

In his briefing with Secretary Villar, Director Leaño said that the road project will generate travel time savings of about 10 to 15 minutes by providing access from Iloilo-Jaro Diversion Road to downtown area via Jalandoni Bridge without passing Gen. Luna Street.

Also included in the project is the construction of 90.0 lineal meters Type IV-B Bridge on reinforced concrete pile foundation, reinforced concrete pipe culverts, slope protection, concrete lined canal and pavement markings. | DPWH-PR
