‘Vinta’-affected families now at 152K

MANILA – The number of families affected by Tropical Storm Vinta has climbed to 152,382 or 720,201 persons living in 1,111 barangays in the Mimaropa, Central Visayas, Zamboanga, Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen, Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and CARAGA regions, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said in its Friday update.

Of the figure, 21,884 families or 106,758 persons are still being aided in 192 evacuation centers, along with 5,303 families or 26,192 individuals outside evacuation centers.

NDRRMC executive director Ricardo Jalad said one person was confirmed killed by the effects of “Vinta”, as 163 reported deaths were being validated as of this posting. Missing persons remain at 168.

Still under a state of calamity are Tambulig, Zamboanga del Sur; Bacolod, Lanao del Norte; Lanao del Norte; Labason and Salug in Zamboanga del Norte; Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay; Balabac, Aborlan, and Bataraza in Palawan. (Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
