Voluntary bike registration launched in QC

The Quezon City local government on Friday (May 21) announced that it has launched its voluntary bike registration program to ensure the safety of cyclists in the city.

Under the QC Safe Cycling Ordinance, “pertinent information on cyclists and active transport users for the purpose of ensuring the continuous improvement of the safe cycling and active transport program” are maintained.

“I hope that through this bike registration program, more residents will be inspired to take alternative transportation because they can be assured of their safety and security here in Quezon City,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said.

Retired Brig. Gen. Elmo San Diego, Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) head, said the voluntary registration will help cyclists in case of stolen bicycles.

“We can aid them and they can avail of the assistance of the police in investigating missing bikes because the owners can readily present a certificate of ownership issued by DPOS,” he said.

Belmonte is encouraging active transport users to register to the program and hopes that it would inspire more residents “to take alternative transportation because they can be assured of their safety and security.”

The QC government listed the following requirements for registration:

  Government issued ID

  2×2 photo

  Proof of purchase

  Owner’s picture with the bike

The program will issue a sticker for identification purposes and requires a P150.00 registration fee. The DPOS may be contacted through (8)710-0743.Report from Ken Bornilla/AG-rir
