Volunteers to conduct drug rehab program in Bacolod

BACOLOD CITY — Seventy-five volunteers completed a three-day “Trainers’ Training” Friday to carry out the second eight-week Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation Program (CBDRP).

Mayor Evelio Leonardia, chairman of CADAC, thanked the trainers for their dedication in helping Bacolod sustain its drug rehabilitation program. The seminar was held at the Bacolod City Government Center.

“It is recommended that we have a consistent and continuing program on drug rehabilitation,” the mayor said, adding that what will happen to the surrenderers after the rehabilitation is vital.

“It is not enough that they have surrendered. They have to be guided, to facilitate their eventual return to the society,” Leonardia said.

The trainers, supervised by the Bacolod City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC), came from different support groups and will carry out the CBDRP based on Department of Health (DOH) Administrative Order 2017-18.

Resource persons during the three-day training included Dr. Priscilla Lamis, Dr. Ronald Anotado, and nurse Emmanuel Ausmolo, all of the DOH Region 6 Treatment and Rehabilitation Center; and Carmelo Orbista, officer-in-charge of Department of the Interior and Local Government-Bacolod.

The City Health Office and the Department of Social Service and Development are in-charge of the CBDRP implementation.

Out of the 75 trainers, 10 teams were formed to be assigned to each station of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).

Each of the 10 teams is composed of seven staff, including a psychiatrist, a psychologist, a nurse, a social worker, a member of a faith-based organization, a peer counselor, and a representative from the BCPO-Women and Children Protection Desk.

The CADAC will also assign five facilitators who will assist all the teams. A support service or after-care mechanism will also be put in place.

Superintendent Levy Pangue, head of BCPO Investigation and Detection Management Unit, earlier said 544 drug surrenders are being eyed for inclusion in the second batch who will undergo the CBDRP.

In May this year, 65 drug reformists in Bacolod completed the eight-week CBDRP. (PNA)
