Voters in Zamboanga decline: Comelec

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has recorded a decline in the number of regular and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) voters in this city.

This came about after the local Comelec office, through the two Election Registration Boards (ERBs), cleansed the list of voters of double registrants, transferees, without biometrics, and those who have died.

There are two ERBs for this city covering the first and second congressional districts. This city consists of 98 barangays–37 in the first district and 61 in the second district.

Lawyer Stephen Roy Cañete, first district election officer, told the Philippine News Agency that the registered regular voters in his area have declined by 388 from 226452 to 226,064.

For the SK, Cañete said the registered voters declined by 2,934 from 76,740 to 73,806.

In the second district, the number of registered regular voters have declined by 3,019 from 213,208 to 210,189.

The SK registered voters have declined by 2,815 from 70,021 to 67,206.

Lawyer Lerdo Matildo Jr., is the election officer in the second district. He is on official leave of absence.

Cañete said they are ready for the conduct of Barangay and SK elections, which is scheduled to be held on May 14, this year.

The composition of the ERB in the first district are the following: Cañete as chair with the City Schools Division Superintendent Felix Romy Triambulo, and City Treasurer Romelito Candido as members.

In the second district, they comprise of the following: Cañete as chairperson since Matildo is on official leave, with Triambulo, and City Civil Registrar Alexander Elias as members.
