ILOILO CITY — The Police Regional Office 6 (Western Visayas) will intensify its campaign against loose firearms and expired licenses as the May 2019 mid-term election draws near.

Supt. Joem Malong, PRO-6 spokesperson, said in an interview on Wednesday that Senior Supt. Remus Zacharias Cañieso, deputy regional director for operations, has ordered police units to subject all gun owners who did not surrender and deposit their firearms to the nearest police station, to a focused police operation.

“This means we can apply for a search warrant and this will be served to the owner of these firearms,” Malong added.

The Tokhang Kontra Ginadumili-an nga Pusil (TKGP) has covered almost 100 percent of its operations, thus PRO-6 is moving forward with serving the warrants of arrest.

PRO-6 also identified a few candidates using the services of the New People’s Army (NPA) and private armed groups. “We are also watching over candidates maintaining guns-for-hire,” Malong said.

She added that they are checking on reported politicians with loose firearms. “They will be the priority for the serving of search warrants,” she added.

Malong assured the public that their operations will not only be for ordinary people.
“We have proven that already, even to those known and big politicians whom they dub as untouchables. We have already served them warrants of arrest,” she added.

PRO-6 has yet to validate the names and data of the politicians reported to them before releasing their identities.
