Walk-in applicants allowed on Sept. 5 special registration: Comelec

MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday clarified that regular walk-in applicants will also be accommodated on Sept. 5 when a special exclusive registration for Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in all Office of the Election Officers (OEOs) will be held nationwide.

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez, however, noted that the elderly and PWDs would be prioritized on the said day.

“Allowed po ang walk-in kasi hindi namin pwede i-turn away ang aplikante pag dumating (We will also allow walk-in applicants because we cannot just simply turn them away when they arrived). So just in case meron nga dumating (walk-in applicants arrive), i-accommodate na lang (we will accommodate them),” he said in a statement.

The application for registration, transfer/transfer with reactivation, reactivation, change/correction of entries/and inclusion/reinstatement of records in the list of voters will be received from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“Pursuing a more inclusive electoral exercise is an enduring commitment of the Commission. With this undertaking, we aim to highlight the fact that members of vulnerable sectors, such as senior citizens and PWDs, have equal rights of suffrage as the next person. This is also one way of encouraging them to participate in all upcoming polls,” Jimenez added.

At the same time, the poll body official reminded new registrants and those who want to transfer or reactivate their registration to bring any one of the following valid IDs: student ID or library card, employees ID, postal ID, senior citizen’s ID, driver’s license, TIN ID, NBI clearance, passport, SSS/GSIS ID (UMID), Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) ID, Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) ID, and PWD ID, with proof of address in the locality.

Those who intend to apply for change/correction of entries due to erroneous entries need to bring a Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) copy of their birth certificate, and a marriage contract or court order for those who wish to change their name by reason of marriage or by court order.

The system of continuing registration resumed on July 2 and will run until September 29. (Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
