Water and electric disconnections temporarily suspended in NCR during MECQ

Major water and electricity service providers announced that disconnection is temporarily suspended in Laguna and Metro Manila while under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office (MWSS RO) said it has directed Manila Water Company, Inc. and Maynilad Water Services, Inc. to extend their suspension of all service disconnection activities until such time that the MECQ has been lifted, and to ensure water supply availability within their service areas.

The Manila Water Company told PTV on Sunday (Aug. 22) that they will abide by the directive of the MWSS.

“No disconnection until MECQ is lifted… We will abide by the directive of the MWSS RO on this,” Group Head, Corporate Strategic Affairs and Head, Corporate Communications Jeric Sevilla said in a text message.

Maynilad also announced in a Facebook post on Friday (Aug. 20) that service disconnection will be suspended in Metro Manila from Aug. 21 to Aug. 31.

However, meter reading and billing activities will continue.

Power service provider Manila Electric Company (Meralco) also said in a separate Facebook post that disconnection activities for customers with unpaid bills in MECQ areas are likewise suspended. – Report from Cleizl Pardilla / CF-bny
