Wet weekend due to LPA, ‘habagat’

By Raymond Carl Dela Cruz/Philippine News Agency

MANILA — Most parts of the country will have to brace for a wet weekend as rains are expected due to a low-pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon (habagat).

In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin Saturday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA was last spotted 970 km. east of Juban, Sorsogon.

It said the LPA enhances the southwest monsoon, bringing rains over Metro Manila, Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), Western Visayas, and the provinces of Zambales, Bataan, Batangas and Cavite.

PAGASA also warned residents of these areas against possible flashfloods and landslides due to moderate to heavy rains.

Meanwhile, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over the rest of Luzon and Visayas and the Zamboanga Peninsula while the rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

The western section of Luzon will experience moderate to strong winds in the southwest direction, causing coastal waters to experience moderate to rough waves that could reach 1.2 meters to 2.8 meters.

The rest of the country will have light to moderate winds in the southwest direction with slight to moderate height in its coastal waters ranging from 0.6 meter to 2.1 meters.

Metro Manila’s temperature will range from 25 degrees to 30 degrees Celsius; Tuguegarao at 25 to 34 degrees Celsius; Laoag at 25 to 32 degrees Celsius; Baguio at 16 to 22 degrees Celsius; Lipa at 24 to 32 degrees Celsius; Legazpi at 25 to 32 degrees Celsius; Puerto Princesa at 25 to 31 degrees Celsius; Iloilo City/Bacolod City at 26 to 32 degrees Celsius; Metro Cebu at 27 to 31 degrees Celsius; Tacloban City at 26 to 32 degrees Celsius; Metro Davao at 26 to 33 degree Celsius; and Zamboanga City at 25 to 32 degrees Celsius.
