An individual identified as Lyra (not her real name), 32, was arrested by the Aleng Pulis Operatives of the Women and Children Protection Center – Mindanao Field Unit (WCPC-MFU) at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 6 (Wednesday) at Misamis Oriental.

TheĀ  arrest was conducted under the leadership of PLTCOL. Mario Baquiran Jr., in close collaboration with other PNP units, the International Justice Mission (IJM), and the Region 10 Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking/Region 10 Anti-Trafficking Task Force following online surveillance and cyber patrolling performed on the suspect’s social media account that contained evidence of her offering minors for sexual exploitation in exchange for money.

The entrapment and rescue operation resulted in the rescue of four (4) minors — one (1) victim and three (3) children-at-risk, marking a significant breakthrough in the fight against online sexual abuse and exploitation of children (OSAEC).

Authorities highlighted the nature of the crime, wherein victims were found to have been coerced into performing sexual acts in front of a camera for online customers, who transferred money or use other online payment systems. These images and videos were often resold online. The officials also confiscated crucial evidence from the suspect’s possession.

ā€œToday, we have taken a significant step in our mission to eradicate the online exploitation of children. The rescue of these innocent children is a testament to our commitment of protecting the most vulnerable members of our society. We will not rest until every child is safe and every perpetrator is held accountable,ā€ PLTCOL. Baquiran said.

The WCPC emphasized that the fight against online sexual abuse and exploitation cannot be won by one agency alone. It requires the collaborative efforts of government agencies, civil society, and the public.

The public is encouraged to report any instances of OSAEC via the WCPC’s Facebook page, which operates 24/7. They invite everyone to share information and report at this Facebook page: PNP Women and Children Protection Center.
