Work, classes suspended for ASEAN Summit

MANILA — Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar on Saturday clarified that classes in all levels in public and private schools and work in both government and private offices in the National Capital Region (NCR), Bulacan and Pampanga are suspended from Nov. 13 to 15 to give way to the 31st ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.

The ASEAN events will be held in Metro Manila and Clark Field in Pampanga.

President Rodrigo Duterte has earlier signed Proclamation 332 declaring Nov. 13-15 as special non-working days in the said areas.

However, government units directly involved in basic services, including safety and security, health and emergency measures, and the conduct of various ASEAN activities would continue operations.

The Metro Manila Council, composed of all mayors in the metropolis, also suspended classes on Nov. 16-17.

World leaders have begun to arrive in the Philippines to attend the 31st ASEAN summit.

Most of the leaders will land at the Clark International Airport, more than 100 km. from the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City, the venue for the majority of the activities. (Rom Dulfo/PNA)
