Zambo City allots P50-M to build disaster response center

ZAMBOANGA CITY — The city government has allocated PHP50 million for the construction of a command and control center for disaster response.

Dr. Elmeir Jade Apolinario, City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) head, said on Wednesday the command and control center will be a three-story edifice that will be built on a 10,000 square meter government-owned property in Barangay Cabatangan.

Apolinario said the center will house the security forces, CDRRMO and its equipment, the closed-circuit television (CCTV) monitoring area, and other facilities for disaster response.

He said communications and coordination will be faster during emergency if all disaster response units are housed under one roof.

“Response and decision making will be faster,” he added, saying the establishment of the center will improve the local government’s resiliency against natural and man-made disasters.

He said the center is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
