ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) will deploy some 1,500 personnel to ensure peace and security in the May 13 mid-term elections here.

Police Capt. Shellamie Chang, ZCPO information officer, said Tuesday the police’s election security plan has been implemented although none of this city’s 98 barangays has been declared areas of concern.

Chang said the ZCPO aims to achieve zero election-related incidents starting this week until the election day.

“The ZCPO is all set for the election on Monday, May 13,” said Chang, adding that aside from providing security for the delivery and retrieval of ballots, policemen will also secure the Commission on Election (Comelec) hub and City Treasurer’s Office.

She said the ZCPO personnel will be augmented by policemen from the Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) in rendering election security duty.

Meanwhile, she said they have 51 trained personnel in case teachers withdraw their designations as Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs).

This city has two congressional districts and over 450,000 registered voters.

There are six candidates for mayor; three for vice mayor; 32 candidates for councilors in the first district; and 23 in the second district. For district representatives, seven candidates are vying in the first district and six in the second district.
