ZAMBOANGA CITY — The local government here will soon implement the “no-contact” policy in apprehending violators of traffic laws and other ordinances, an official said Thursday.
Christopher Mandi, head of the Command Center Operations, said the policy will be implemented once all the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras are installed.
Mandi said the project, worth over PHP100 million, is already in the final stage and will be completed by July.
Mandi said at least 130 CCTV cameras have been installed all over the city, especially in the commercial center.
“We are on our way to a smart city,” he added, citing the project contractor is changing the location of some cameras and reconfiguring the system for an effective imposition of the no-contact apprehension policy.
The no-contact apprehension policy will cover violations of traffic laws like illegal parking, beating the red light, anti-smoking and anti-littering ordinances as well as other violations.
Mandi said violators will be properly informed with the assistance of the local police and traffic aide and will be asked to settle the fines corresponding to the violations.
Mandi said the policy will be implemented in coordination with the Land Transportation Office.
“We have eyes on the streets, as an office in charge of it, we have to take action for what we see,” Mandi said.
