ZAMBOANGA CITY–Newly-elected barangay officials who are to assume office on Saturday, June 30, should adhere to the directives of President Rodrigo Duterte.

First district Rep. Celso Lobregat issued the advice as he administered on Thursday the oath-taking of officials from six barangays of this city in his office here.

Lobregat stressed that the elected village officials should focus on the campaign against illegal drugs, criminality and terrorism in their respective barangays.

“As front liners, you are not only tasked to lead your barangay, but also make sure that you are showing your extensive efforts in fighting the illegal drug menace, upholding the law and sustaining peace and order, or else, the president has his directive for DILG (Department of the Interior and Local Government) to look after your performance,” Lobregat said.

President Duterte, when he administered the oath taking of the region’s barangay chairpersons in Molave town, Zamboanga del Sur on Tuesday, said local government officials should do their share in the administration’s anti-criminality campaign.

Duterte challenged the village leaders to be proactive in addressing common crimes as well as illegal drugs, saying he cannot solve the country’s problems by himself.

The officials who took oath on Thursday at the office of Lobregat here are from Barangays Pasonanca, Maasin, Campo Islam, Lunzuran, Pasobolong and Zone 1. (Teofilo Garcia, Jr/PNA)
