Zamboanga mega isolation facility to finish within the month

The construction of the P120 million mega isolation facility in Zamboanga City is expected to finish within the month.

The facility located inside the Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone Authority or Zamboanga Freeport Authority in Barangay Talisayan is now 70% complete, Zamboanga City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office Chief Dr. Elmeir Jade Apolinario said in a statement last Saturday (Aug. 14).

According to Apolinario, these isolation facilities will be needed in the event of a surge of the Delta variant.

The facility will be able to house 320 beds and is air-conditioned.

The isolation facility is the biggest established since the convention center in Barangay Pasonanca was converted into a 188-bed quarantine site last July.

Said center in Pasonanca provided management, monitoring, and treatment of asymptomatic and moderate COVID-19 patients.

Once the mega isolation facility opens, Zamboanga City will have over 2,000 beds available to COVID-19 patients.

As of Saturday, the city has had 125 active cases of COVID-19. -PTV News/PG -bny
