Zamboanga police receive 24 radio transceivers

ZAMBOANGA CITY — The city government has turned over 24 units of two-way radio transceivers worth half-a-million pesos to boost the communication capability of the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO).

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar led the turnover of the radio sets on Monday afternoon before the City Peace and Order Council convened.

Salazar said each radio unit costs PHP24,800. The total for all 24 units is PHP595,200.

She said the radio sets were purchased along with 36 other units, which were turned over to the City Administrator’s Office.

The funding for the entire purchase — amounting to PHP1.488 million — was taken from the Peace and Order Program under the Annual Budget for Fiscal Year 2017.

Senior Supt. Vincent Neri Ignacio, ZCPO director, vowed to further strengthen peace and security efforts in the city with unrelenting support from the local government.

Ignacio said the communication facilities are expected to help in the mobility and deployment of troops during emergencies, and in the course of performing their mandated tasks.

He acknowledged that the city government, under the leadership of Salazar, is firm in its commitment to help the police perform better in maintaining peace and order.

The police’ tasks, he added, would have been doubly challenging without the assistance and support of the local government unit.

The Salazar administration’s assistance to the security sector has already reached more than PHP800 million since 2014.

The support comes in numerous forms — transportation facilities complete with fuel and maintenance services, firearms, allowances for policemen, office supplies, and communication facilities, among others. (Teofilo Garcia, Jr/PNA)
