Zamboanga solon urges to remember yesterday’s heroes

ZAMBOANGA CITY–Zamboangueños must learn from the examples and draw inspiration from the sacrifices and struggles of yesterday’s heroes who fought against foreign oppressors.

This is the call of 1st district Rep. Celso Lobregat as he noted that the country nowadays faces new forms of battles.

Lobregat said he is one with the Zamboangueños and the entire nation in Tuesday’s commemoration of the 120th anniversary of the proclamation of the Philippine Independence Day.

“Centuries ago, our ancestors fought against foreign oppressors; today, we are fighting against some forces who wish to break up our city, our region and our country and we are fighting against poverty and sovereignty”, Lobregat said.

Lobregat noted the country continues to celebrate June 12 not only to recall the struggles of yesterday’s heroes but also to be remind each and every constituent that “freedom is a shared commitment and a common aspiration.”

He said each and every citizenry has the duty and responsibility to work actively and collectively with government to help retain sovereignty and to help fight against poverty as the country confronts issues on sovereignty and territorial integrity and poverty.

Lobregat said that like President Rodrigo Duterte, he wants to help improve quality of life, economic status and infrastructure developments in this city, in his role as the House Committee chairman on Public Works and Highways and vice chairman of the Committee on Appropriations.

Lobregat said that as a legislator, he is also bringing for the city’s voice, in the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL), which is pending approval in the Bicameral Conference Committee, where he is a member.

“As what I always say to the public, rest assured I will be there till the very end fighting for Zamboanga City’s interest, standing firm for what is best for Mindanao, defending the constitution and protecting the Republic,” he said. (Teofilo Garcia, Jr/PNA)
